"Absolutely fascinating...Nureyev will be remembered not only for the high technical standard of male dancing he brought to the West from Russia in 1961, but as a great classical dancer in the 19th century ballet classics."

"Among the countless films on ballet, there have been few that have attempted to delve into the actual life of a dancer with its attention to rigorous discipline and dedication above and beyond the call of broken, bleeding feet, twisted knees, back-breaking rehearsals, petty jealousies and a life as highly proscribed as that of a cloistered convent."
