The present world is lies, dreams, and darkness... Night is the truth. Edogawa Rampo's eerie erotic world of bizarreness, shame, beauty, and fantasy is unfolding. Director Noboru Tanaka and star Junko Miyashita reunite after their 1975 film, "A Woman Called Abe Sada." Junko Miyashita plays a Taisho-era noblewoman, exuding a mysterious allure in her mysterious Western attire. This film is an adaptation of Edogawa Ranpo's novel "The Attic Wanderer," which tells the story of a man who wanders the attic day and night, spying on the lives of others and eventually committing murder.

Reviews

  • "Tanaka's film is quite hypnotic, beautifully shot and chock-a-block full of striking images. For those still unfamiliar with the not insignificant charms of Nippon eroticism, this film represents one of the finest in its field."
    Jasper Sharp, Midnight Eye
  • "“Watcher in the Attic” is undoubtedly a classic from Tanaka that has a particular theme of voyeurism."
    Deepesh Thapa, Taste Of Cinema
  • "Watcher in the Attic is an unsettling exploration of loneliness and obsession whose final moment serves as a perfect coda for the events that have unfolded."
    Michael Den Boer, 10k Bullets
