Andrea, a university student in present-day Madrid, lives a seemingly normal life, until one day when her boyfriend is killed in a shocking act of violence. She soon begins to notice a mysterious entity that follows her no matter where she turns. Twenty years prior, Marie, a woman in Buenos Aires, suffered the same fate. Camila, a documentarian, learns of the threat these women faced, but no one will believe her. Across time and space, these three unconnected women are bound together by an inescapable terror.

Director Pedro Martín-Calero's The Wailing is “an unsettling, cryptic and disturbing film… a powerful feature debut about violence against women, about all that feeds into it and causes it.” (Cineuropa)

"A strong feminist angle gives the film a powerful currency and the three young leads are compelling in different ways – most impressively perhaps, singer and actor Villa."

"The Wailing is an unsettling, cryptic and disturbing film that talks about prominent real-life topics but using an enigmatic approach steeped in the imagination. It’s a powerful feature debut about violence against women, about all that feeds into it and causes it, recounted from a unique and courageous point of view – that of a contemporary feminist horror."

"While all the performances are good, Malena Villa is the stand-out, both her look and acting style recalling that of Kristen Stewart...."

"Pedro Martin-Calero, who wrote the film script alongside Isabel Pena, inserts just the right amount of intrigue and mystery in order to keep viewers hooked for 107 minutes. The jump scares are sparse and effective, and the acting is top notch. "
