Synopsis

The year is 1800, in the Sant Ignazio College, an old decrepit musical institution for girls, somewhere near Venice. Here lives “the Mute”, a silent, solitary maid devoted to the humblest chores. No one knows her name, Teresa, and no one suspects her extraordinary, hidden visionary talent that enables her to sense the universe’s harmony and reshape reality through music. While everybody at the Sant Ignazio is making a huge fuss about the imminent visit of the newly enthroned Pope and the old Chapel Master is struggling to put together a new composition for the Pontifex, Teresa makes an exceptional discovery in the storeroom: a brand-new invention, a beautiful instrument… a pianoforte. Around Teresa, with her powerful and, at the time, revolutionary “music machine”, gathers an amazing “quartet” of young women, the best, most energetic musicians of Sant Ignazio. From this secret cell of great yet overlooked talents, a new music will be born that the Pope (and the world) certainly did not expect... Gloria! is about the imagination, fantasy and talent of all the many female composers who, like flowers left to dry, are hidden away in the pages of history.
